About This Project

Alvaro

Alvaro is 67 years old with a profound sensorineural hearing loss. Alvaro lost his hearing suddenly, approximately 10 years ago, in both ears by unknown cause. His hearing loss is so significant that he cannot communicate independently without amplification. Due to his profound hearing loss, his sister has been assisting him as translator when he does not have assistance from amplification. Alvaro’s latest pair of hearing aids were damaged, outdated, and the cost of repair was impossible for him.

On December 1, 2014 the HearAid Foundation fitted him with his hearing aids. Samantha Godby generously fitted Alvaro and Norma Berrera provided Spanish translation. When he came in on Monday he was unable to hear absolutely anything until he was plugged into his new hearing aids. The sounds he heard were greeted with a big smile from Alvaro!

After wearing his new aids, Alvaro joyfully contributed to the conversation. When Alvaro was asked when will he be wearing his hearing aids he stated he will be wearing them from the moment he wakes up until the moment he falls asleep. We are thrilled to been able to give the gift of hearing to Alvaro!
